Urban + Country Engagement Session | Champaign, IL
The holiday season is often referred to as "engagement season" to those in the wedding industry. According to Weddingwire.com, 40% of engagements happen between November and February. Who doesn't want to receive a proposal for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years or Valentines? Can I get an "AMEN!"?
This year we asked a simple question on our Facebook page, "Do you know someone who was recently engaged?" The response was overwhelming! We threw all of the names into a red Solo cup, and let one of the kiddos pick out a name. Megan Sikma was the winner, nominated by her friend Angie Blank. Megan & her fiancè Landon were the winners of an engagement session & canvas! They are planning a destination wedding later this year in Traverse City, MI - and were thrilled to get to have an engagement session that would "be them."
A few days after contacting Megan - who was beyond excited - we Skyped with the happy couple, set up a date, discussed what to wear, and had a great time getting to know each other. We learned that Megan & Landon had just become engaged and that although they had known of each other for several years, it wasn't until after college that they become reaquainted and started dating. She went to one of the shows his band Triple OT Buck was playing, and the rest is history.
We ended up with one of those crazy warm February days for our session, and it couldn't have been more perfect! We started in downtown Champaign using some of our favorite landmarks around town as backdrops.
With the sun getting lower in the sky, we moved on to a local park where Landon brought along his guitar and he played a sweet song to Megan.
After our time at the park, we decided to take advantage of the gorgeous sunset and high-tailed it to the round barns on the U of I campus. And what a sunset it was! Some of our all time favorite images are created during that magic time just before sunset.
Megan's beautiful ring is from Hustedts Jewelers, and we think Landon selected the perfect style for his bride-to-be. Elegant.
